Melting HOD – Job Description
Position: Head of Department – Melting
Department: Melting
Reports To: Plant Head
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, manage, and control all melting .
  • Ensure correct charge mix, alloy additions, and chemical composition as per specifications.
  • Achieve production targets with optimum yield, controlled power consumption, and minimum melting loss.
  • Monitor furnace parameters, refractory life, and maintenance schedules.
  • Implement and maintain SOPs for melting, pouring temperature, and metal quality.
  • Coordinate with Quality, Production, and Maintenance departments.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, statutory, and environmental norms.
  • Analyze melting-related defects and take corrective and preventive actions.
  • Train and develop operators and supervisors in best melting practices.
  • Maintain daily and monthly reports on production, energy consumption, and KPIs.
Quality & Safety
  • Ensure molten metal quality meets customer and internal standards.
  • Enforce safety practices including PPE usage, molten metal handling, and emergency procedures.
  • Conduct safety audits and toolbox talks.
Cost & Efficiency
  • Control raw material consumption and alloy costs.
  • Reduce power/fuel consumption and improve furnace efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement, Kaizen, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of metallurgy, charge calculations, and furnace operations.
  • Problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Leadership and team management abilities.
  • Data analysis and reporting skills.
Qualification & Experience
  • B.E. / B.Tech in Metallurgy or Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
  • 8–15 years of experience in foundry melting operations.
  • Hands-on experience with induction furnaces and spectrometer control.
Salary & Benefits
  • Salary Range: ₹40,000 to ₹60,000 per month (Negotiable, based on experience and skill)
